I am really trying to eat healthier and be more aware of what my family is putting in our bodies. With 3 preemies, I don’t get out of the house much other than to go to doctor appointments. My husband does all the grocery shopping for us and anything I need that he can’t pick up for me, I order online. I’m all about having things delivered to my front door, especially when there’s free shipping involved!! In my search for all things healthy and deliverable, I found Door to Door Organics. What’s not to love about free delivery, eating and feeling healthier, getting farm-fresh food in no time, no commitment, and you skip a trip to the store?!
With Back-to-School time right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to talk about healthy snacking for kids with a #SnackAttactics kid friendly recipe, tips for making eating healthy fun for your little ones, and a Back-to-School Giveaway!!!! That’s right, there’s a giveaway this week… so listen closely. One lucky winner on Facebook, and one lucky winner on Instagram, will each be getting a Door to Door Organics Prize Pack (pictured above) which includes a Klean Kanteen water bottle, To-Go Ware Bamboo utensils, Eco lunch bag, Cuppow mason jar sippy lid, Organic Pomegranate Lip Balm, Coloring Book and $50 gift certificate!!! The contests will run through midnight on the 13th.

You can visit doortodoororganics.com and it will redirect you to your nearest location’s website to enter your ZIP code and see if they deliver to your address.
Now… on to the fun stuff!! How do you get your kids to want to eat healthy and prepare healthy snacks themselves? Well here are my #SnackAttactics! It seems like snacking is when it’s easiest to grab a bag of chips or soda or piece of candy. You get the hunger urge and immediately look for something either sweet or salty to grab depending on what sounds good to you at the time. It’s the same for our kids. If fruits and vegetables are washed, cut, and prepared ahead of time, you and your kids are more likely to reach for something healthy when hunger strikes. The 2nd thing is to make eating healthy fun (especially for younger kids) by getting creative… literally! If you have fruits and vegetables, washed, sliced, and ready to grab, you can get creative using cookie cutters and your imagination to create works of art with your food!!! Encourage your kids to create a scene from a story book or from their day. Here’s one I did! Some lucky person is driving home to a house surrounded by fresh produce!!! It’s fun to eat all of your scraps as you create, then take a good picture when you’re done, and eat away!
Another way to get creative is to come up with smoothie recipes. This is one of my favorites but I’m constantly changing up what I put in them based on what produce is in season and what we have on hand. I always start with greens. Kale is my favorite but you can use spinach or any other leafy greens. I fill the blender about half way full of greens. Then I add a frozen ripe banana to almost every smoothie I make. It keeps the smoothie cold and adds some sweetness. Pineapple is another fruit I love to add for a sweeter drink. Here I added fresh pineapple and fresh peach slices. I also like to include raw nuts like almonds or walnuts, and chia seeds for extra protein, fiber, and omega 3′s. I recommend adding the chia seeds last after any liquid. If you add them earlier, they like to stick to the sides and not get mixed in. You can add any liquid you’d like depending on how sweet you like it. I usually use organic apple juice, orange juice, water or milk just depending on how sweet I want it and what other fruits/veggies I’ve used. As long as you have the fruits and veggies pre-washed and cut up, it’s easy for a child to throw in what they like and blend away!!! You can even prepare freezer bags with just enough fruit for one smoothie and put different blends of fruit in each bag. Have one for tropical flavors, one for berries, etc.
