Ever since I found out I was pregnant, even before we knew it was triplets, I’ve been searching for health and beauty products that are not full of toxins and chemicals we shouldn’t be putting on our skin. Well, I have found products for mama and baby that I LOVE from Simple Roots Natural Wellness on Etsy.
Their Nourishing Baby Oil is the only product I have found that moisturizes the baby’s skin and keeps it soft for more than half of a day. Not only does it work but it’s Natural and not full of junk like commercial baby oils today that are mainly mineral oil and fragrance. Mineral oil is a petrochemical that clogs pores and hinders baby skin’s ability to rid itself of wastes. Fragrance, taken from the Environmental Working Group’s definition, “represents an undisclosed mixture of various scent chemicals and ingredients used as fragrance dispersants such as diethyl phthalate. Fragrance mixes have been associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system.” Not the best choices for baby in my opinion! This is a much better option! Calendula infused nourishing baby oil. It’s made of Organic Apricot Kernel Oil–a very mild, non-irritating, moisturizing oil that is quickly absorbed into the skin and will not leave baby with an oily residue. High in Vitamins A and E. Calendula–antibacterial and an immuno-stimulant, also helps in the formation of collagen and the reduction of scarring any time broken skin is involved. It’s also great for infant massage which has a long list of benefits for mama and baby.
Thank God we have not had to deal with any diaper rash! But, if we did, I have my Herbal Baby Powder on hand. Commercial baby powders are traditionally made from talc and cornstarch. Diaper rashes can arise from chafing and bacteria, but also from yeast – we know that yeast loves to feed on carbohydrates which is exactly what cornstarch is! Many try to substitute arrowroot powder for cornstarch, but this is just another non-gmo form of carbohydrate. This wonderful alternative will help keep baby dry and happy. I actually use a little of this on the baby’s neck rolls and underarms after baths to keep yeast from forming before baths. This baby powder uses 100% certified organic herbs including kaolin clay, myrrh resin, organic lavender, organic plantain, and organic chamomile. The Healer’s Balm is a must have in any mom’s diaper bag or hand bag. It’s perfect for cuts, scrapes, rashes, burns, insect bites, you name it! I used this one day on a bug bit (I think mosquito) and within about a minute it no longer itched. Never noticed it again. I also used it on a burn on the back of my hand from the inside of the dryer. I reached in when it was hot and it peeled the skin right off of the back of my hand. I rubbed some healer’s balm on it and within a few hours you couldn’t even tell it was there. This is now by go to miracle cream for everything lol! You can use it in place of Neosporin. All ingredients are organic or all natural (no petroleum). It has a long list of ingredients with wonderful healing properties: organic calendula, organic comfrey, organic plantain, organic yarrow, organic marshmallow root, organic echinacea root, organic shea butter, organic coconut oil, pure beeswax, vitamin E oil, organic tea tree essential oil, and organic lavender essential oil. If you are a nursing or pumping mama (or both), the Natural Nipple Cream is a must have. Nursing your baby is one of the greatest gifts a mother can give but it an come at a price…. sore nipples! This natural nipple cream is ultra-nourishing for your sore nipples and safe for baby (or babies in my case). The coconut & shea butters and coconut oil are moisturizing, and the calendula adds an additional healing boost. My nipples have taken quite the beating over the past 8 months. One of them in particular has been cracked and bleeding for months and I can’t get it to heal. I’ve tried everything! Within 2 days of using this natural nipple cream, I was able to nurse on that side again!!
Last but not least of the Mommy must haves from Simple Roots…. Calming Chamomile Tincture. Traditionally used to help relax, soothe, and calm. This can be used for both adults and babies. It can help you de-stress after work or stay calm during high stress events (I wish I had it when we were in the NICU), and help to calm colicky/fussy babies. Chamomile has antispasmodic, sedative, and anti-inflammatory properties to help relax muscles and organs, relieve anxiety and insomnia, and soothe discomfort from headaches, arthritis, and inflamed gums. It can be rubbed on baby’s tummy or gums. For more details visit the Etsy listing.
